PAPER TRAINING...on a patio?????

I am curious if I could paper train my puppy by taking it out on the patio with paper in a certain spot(I live in an apartment)...and then when she is old enough (fully vaccinated at 14ish weeks) - start taking her outside to a specific spot for her to go potty. Would that swtich not work work okay? Would she still have the problem that sometimes happens with paper training of thinking she can go in the house? Or would the fact that I am taking her outside on a patio (it is covered though) prevent that problem?? Just trying to brainstorm ways to protect her from Parvo - but "potty on command" train at the same time....
